On July 15, local time, Trump said that Bessant was an option to succeed Powell as the chairman of the Federal Reserve, but hinted that he was not the leading candidate because he did a very successful job as Treasury Secretary. When asked directly whether Bessant was a potential successor that day, Trump replied to reporters, He is an option, and he is very good.
